The Official Poker Rules

The rules of poker are very important to the success of a casino game. Unless the venue allows the use of non-official rulebooks, such as those published by the World Poker Tour, it is unlikely that people will play the official game. However, anyone can copy portions of the rulebook without restriction or credit. If you are interested in using the rules, you may copy them but do not make copies available to others. The only exception to this is if you plan to use the rulebook in your own establishment.

In the official rules, players on either side of the dealer must bet. The players to their left of the dealer must make an initial bet known as the “big blind”. This bet is placed in front of the dealer without ever seeing the hand. The next player to their left, the “small blind,” is required to bet twice as much as the big blind. The big blind is the player who is the first to make a bet before the cards are dealt.

If a player has a pair of kings, a player may raise his or her bet. A player can raise their bet if the previous player has already placed a bet. If a player has a pair of kings, for example, he or she can open the pot. A player may also check-raise. To do this, a player must raise his or her bet equal to the amount that his or her opponent bet.
