The Official Poker Rules

Poker is a card game played from a standard pack of 52 cards, sometimes with one or two jokers added. It is a fast-paced game and is the most popular card game in the world.

The cards are ranked from high to low (Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace). They are divided into four suits (spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs). All poker hands contain five cards; the highest hand wins.

Some Poker games have a wild card, which can be any card in the deck, except a pair of jacks or a deuce (twos). Other Poker games allow the use of jokers, which rank higher than any other card in the deck.

Players should not bluff with their hand. This is the most important aspect of Poker, since the best hand may not win the pot if no other player calls.

There are a few forms of Poker, with the most common being Draw Poker and Stud Poker. The basic rules are the same in each.

Counting Chips

Each player is entitled to a reasonable estimation of his or her opponent’s chip stack, which can be requested by any player on request. This will greatly improve the accuracy of counting and reduce confusion among players.

If a player bets all-in and a hidden chip is found behind after the caller, the TD will determine whether the chip is part of the accepted action (Rule 49).

A dead button is used in tournament play. This button will act first pre-flop and last on all other betting rounds.
