Official betting is gambling that is regulated and licensed by state gaming agencies. This ensures that games are fair, bets are honored and customers’ funds are safe. It also ensures that all wagering activity is tracked and reported to the appropriate authorities. All licensed and legal sportsbooks will have resources available to bettors, including information on responsible gambling and links to support services.

The NBA is committed to the integrity of its games, and works closely with DraftKings and FanDuel in support of this goal. This collaboration includes joint public education via social media messaging and other platforms, public advocacy, and enforcement of best-in-class standards and limitations on betting-related advertising on NBA and partner websites.

It is not possible to rig a game in a way that benefits the betting market. For example, offering a gift to an umpire would result in a three-year ban. The league is also working with regulators, sportsbooks and independent integrity firms to track betting patterns and catch unauthorized activity.

In the past five years, seven NFL players, one former NFL player and a coach have been found to violate its betting policy. They include Indianapolis Colts receivers Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry and Tennessee Titans free agent Demetrius Taylor.

Until recently, North Carolina was one of just 10 states where bets could not be placed on horse racing. But a new law signed by Gov. Roy Cooper allows bets to be made on horse races in the state.
