Official Betting

Official betting is a type of sports wagering that uses data provided by the team, league or tournament. It’s a legal, safe option for bettors who are interested in betting on their favorite teams.

Almost half of the country now lives in states with regulated sports betting. With that in mind, it’s important to learn about the rules and regulations for each state you live in before placing any wagers. It’s also a good idea to do some research on each individual sportsbook before making a deposit. Look for user reviews, but don’t take them as gospel. What one person may view as negative, another might see as positive (and vice versa). Also, be sure to investigate which sports/events are available for wagering.

In addition to promoting responsible gambling, MLB partners with the American Gaming Association’s Have a Game Plan. Bet Responsibly campaign and supports the National Council on Problem Gambling’s public service efforts.

While the majority of NBA-related activities are permitted under league rules, players can’t place bets on the league or its games from team facilities or when they’re on the road with their teams. The only exception is if they sign a statement acknowledging the league’s gambling rules, which are outlined in their collective bargaining agreement. Players who violate this clause have been subject to an indefinite suspension. For example, former Detroit Lions receiver Quintez Cephus was suspended for a year in 2022 for betting on the NFL while at team facilities.
